This is the mantra of self-proclaimed ìBlock Starî STATUS. Well beyond his years, this laid back, mellow and soft spoken Los Angeles native describes his South Central Los Angeles neighborhood through a series of tracks that chronicles his life and experiences, as he takes you on a bass driven, rhythmic journey, into his world on the block. A true Renaissance man of his generation, his lyrical style is prolific and thought provoking while laced with inspiring epiphanies, on survival.

His style is reminiscent to genuine soul music of days gone by full of funk and passion echoing a hot summer block party with the music coming from the parked cars and everyone is jamming in the streets. Yeah he can give you a smooth groove, but don’t be fooled into thinking he’s straight up old school; naw in this story, new is schooled by old with knowledge so deep that back in the day feels like yesterday. He’s laid back one minute the next straight in your face with a lyrical flow so hard and brutally honest you think you can feel his breath at your neck.
No sweat it’s all good that’s just how it goes, that’s life in the Hood. Just as the flame draws the moth, Status with his street poetry, draws us closer to his flame, which burns, from the block where he’s the star. |
